Okay maybe that doesn’t apply to everyone but it certainly
does to this ‘underwater’ paradise on land! It’s fisherman Joseph here and we’ve
just hauled in a great catch for y’all!
Fish here, fish there! Fish everywhere! It certainly is a hotspot for those fishing for a good place to eat! The name of this paradise is ‘Makoto’ which is situated not in Atlantis but at 336 Victoria Ave, Chatswood. This is a Japanese sushi bar who aims to be the “best sushi bar in Australia”. Setting up the bar and raising our expectations high we stormed the front!
We entered with a great first impression of the place because all the workers including the chefs and waiters/waitresses greeted us in unison, shouting something in Japanese to which we could only return a nod and smile.
We sat down on the stools and my oh my! There was literally a sushi train going around with all sorts of exotic and mouth watering plates of delicious seafood. We really enjoyed their approach to offering us food, it literally came to us! Another aspect which was great was that there were chefs in the middle of the restaurant whom make food right in front of you. Exciting to watch and smart as it only gets you more and more hungry!
Now, on to what we all came here for... The food!!! There were all sorts of different types of seafood from your salmon dishes to clams to fried shrimp to little nemo’s (salmon eggs!).
My favourite dish was the salmon wrapped around rice with avocado + mayonnaise + little nemo’s on top! Mmm childhood has never tasted so delicious! This combination was just amazing, the perfect balance between rice, salmon and topping. Just add a little bit of soy sauce and wasabi and bam! You’ll be swimming in your own drool!
Vincent’s favourite was one of the more expensive dishes
that consisted of salmon, king fish and tuna slices! Great choice. Thick juicy
slices that would just melt in your mouth, making you wipe the drool off your
mouth whilst reaching for another plate!
Alicia’s favourite dish was a clam dish dressed some sort of
creamy sauce which was absolutely yum yum yum! The flavours swimming in that
little pool of deliciousness definitely won the most exotic prize of the night!
Now we can’t forget... the takoyaki!! It is small balls of awesomeness that explode
with sauce and octopus bits in your mouth. This bad boy had all 3 of us drooling
and ordering more!
They say fishing is all about patience... You definitely won’t
find patience in there, we all couldn’t hold back and helped ourselves! Best sushi bar in Australia? Maybe. We
certainly did however enjoy ourselves there and we certify it as a ‘big fish’
in Sydney!
We rate this place a strong 4/5 and definitely recommend it
for all to try! A great catch awaits you!
